Godzilla: Resurgence will be Toho’s own reboot of the Godzilla franchise — it’s not connected to the sequel to the 2014 reboot of Godzilla by Legendary Pictures. This will be the first Japanese Godzilla movie made in over a decade, and Toho wants to give this famous movie monster some well-deserved respect. We need to fear this kaiju, not laugh at him.
Some images rumored to be stills of the suit have leaked online (see above) — and here’s an official teaser image, as well.
Given that Godzilla is typically read as a Japanese story about nuclear tragedy — his atomic breath turns human bodies to dust on city streets — it’s refreshing to see this franchise in the hands of Japanese filmmakers, best equipped to tell their own analogy of their country’s history.
Given that the story was always meant to be a horrific one, it also makes sense that Godzilla would look so alarming, as in the leaked photos above — assuming these leaked photos are indeed real, as claimed. What do you all think about Godzilla’s new look? Are you interested in seeing Toho’s take on this story? What do you think about this direction in contrast to the Legendary Pictures’ Godzilla franchise?
