Jeri Ryan, who was best known as the liberated Borg Seven of Nine on Star Trek: Voyager, made a name for herself as a sci-fi actress before heading into the mainstream to do shows like Boston Public, Boston Legal, and most recently, Body of Proof. Her first big break was the UFO sci-fi conspiracy show Dark Skies (that was created to compete with The X-Files). But it’s been years since Ryan has done anything in the sci-fi genre, and now she’s going to be a guest star on SyFy‘s Warehouse 13 — as a boring human. Well, maybe there’s more to it than that.
Says Ryan on her character, Amanda:
“This one is human, so she’s a little closer to my own reality than other sci-fi characters that I’ve played in the past.”
Amanda is a Marine who is revealed to have been the ex-wife of Warehouse 13‘s agent Pete Lattimer (Eddie McClintock) and is now getting remarried. But where the crazy weird stuff that usually happens comes in, we don’t know. Because that would be giving too much away. However, it looks like very bad, creepy things are happening to other soldiers and the trailer is hinting at “secrets from the past.” But even more fun, her former Voyager castmate Kate Mulgrew — Captain Janeway herself — will be filming a guest starring role at a later date. (Mulgrew can currently be seen on Adult Swim‘s NTSF:SD:SUV if you don’t want to wait. Because she’s pretty awesome on that.)
Ryan is only set to do one episode of Warehouse 13, but it sounds like she’s leaving the door open for future roles in the genre that made her famous:
“You get to do a lot of stuff in that genre that you don’t really get to do in typical drama or comedy. That’s one of the reasons you become an actress, is to do as many different things as you can and live as many different lives as you can. It’s fun to do a role where you suspend belief a bit …”
Come back, Jeri Ryan! The genre would love to see you again, for a longer visit next time!
Warehouse 13 airs on SyFy tonight at 9:00 PM EST.
