Win/Win: Purchase a Gorgeous Watercolor Print of Kamala Khan, Help the ACLU at the Same Time

These days, everybody’s getting involved in fighting Trump’s regime one way or another, and it’s heartening to see some of our favorite comic artists using their talents to support a cause as helpful as the ACLU.

Artist David Mack, whose watercolor work has been featured on Alias and Jessica Jones, created a gorgeous print of Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel in his iconic style. I’ll admit, I’m a sucker for watercolor art (I can’t really explain why), so this piece hit a real soft spot for me. But even putting that aside, I believe it’s an excellent piece that’d look wonderful alongside any other comic art you may have displayed on your own wall.

What’s more, like I said earlier, the proceeds for this sale are going directly to the ACLU, who continue to fight such ludicrous policies as Trump’s executive order banning immigration and entry from seven Muslim-majority countries. It’s through the ACLU’s actions that many of the first detainees were released, and they acted in conjunction with local lawyers and judges to protect their freedoms. On a more general note, the ACLU has made it clear that they intend to fight Trump’s administration every step of the way, and they need our help to do that. Of course, we’ve also responded to their requests as the ACLU reported receiving record donations in response to the immigration ban.

This sale, through Golden Apple Comics, is one of a few fundraisers taking place this weekend. Another prominent example is Bandcamp’s ACLU fundraiser, where they’ve pledged to donate to the ACLU any proceeds they’d normally get from music sales. As well, many artists and activists continue to pledge money, offering to match donations made to the ACLU upon seeing a receipt of your donation.

It’s perhaps poignant and all too appropriate that the image of a Muslim hero from Jersey who captured comic fans’ hearts is now being used to fight Trump’s atrocious Muslim Ban.
