Previously titled Susan Cooper, we’ve been hearing about this re-teaming of Melissa McCarthy and Paul Feig for quite a while now. Spy is meant to be a James Bond-like parody film but the first trailer doesn’t reveal the kind of story I was hoping for, rather it falls back on the usual Feig/McCarthy playbook.

It’s great to see McCarthy headline another comedy but as someone who just watched the entirety of Gilmore Girls, I now understand what people always complained about from her recent string of films. She could do so much more than gross-out/fall down comedy and it would be great to see her headline a film using those skills instead.

Spy also features Rose Byrne, Allison Janney, Morena Baccarin, Jason Statham, and Jude Law and will hit theaters May 22. Let us know what you thought of the trailer!
