Awwww, Man. That Prometheus/Blade Runner Connection Was Just a False Alarm

And That's Terrible

You hear that? That’s the sound of my Prometheus-related hopes and dreams falling to the floor and breaking into dozens of pieces. In an interview with Movies.com, Prometheus Blu-ray producer Charles de Lauzirika explained that the Blu-ray special feature linking Prometheus to Blade Runner is nothing more than a funny Easter egg, a nod to the fans who have long speculated as to a possible connection between Alien and Blade Runner universes.

Says de Lauzirika, who wrote the text in question:

“That was me being fun and cutesy… I would argue that the viral pieces that are included in the Peter Weyland Files are canon just because they originated with Ridley [Scott] and Damon Lindelof. I would say those, to some degree, are canon. But anything else – especially these which are kind of like little cute, embedded text graphics on the menus – I wouldn’t take those too seriously… I mean, I sent it to Ridley and he had no comment. [Laughs] So, it’s just icing on top of icing. It’s not the cake. It’s a fun, little side thing that’s very superficial.”

*sigh* Well, I can’t say I had a good reason to get my hopes up in the first place. The timing between Blade Runner and Prometheus doesn’t match up, for one thing. So the Prometheus and Blade Runner shared universe will have to go beside “a good Star Wars prequel trilogy” in my mental file of “Things I Really Wish Had Happened, But Oh Well.”

Dammit, Charles de Lauzirika. Now you’ve got me hungry for cake, too.
