I’ve been watching the clips coming out of the production of Sucker Punch for a while now, and waiting, without much hope, for it to present itself as something more than a Playboy centerfold glued to an action movie with a generous bucket of the wallpaper paste that is airbrushing and bad CGI.

Well we’re getting down to the wire, and it looks like my initial reactions were pretty much spot on: Sucker Punch is sitting squarely in the male gaze and makes no effort to appeal to any other demographic.

So… here, have the audio of the trailer laid over clips of Disney princesses, who, no matter the uncomfortable subtext of some of their stories, still present more appealing tales for and of women than Sucker Punch.

Susana Polo thought she'd get her Creative Writing degree from Oberlin, work a crap job, and fake it until she made it into comics. Instead she stumbled into a great job: founding and running this very website (she's Editor at Large now, very fancy). She's spoken at events like Geek Girl Con, New York Comic Con, and Comic Book City Con, wants to get a Batwoman tattoo and write a graphic novel, and one of her canine teeth is in backwards.
