In the graphic novel for The Walking Dead, it is arguable that one of the most badass fan favorites is Michonne, who we first meet when she arrives at the camp with two zombies in shackles. Well now, she is bringing her katana skills to the AMC series, much to the joy of Walking Dead fans. The bad news: this might not be until the third season. But the good news: There is going to be a third season! In the meantime, showrunner Frank Darabont confirmed that Stephen King and his son Joe Hill want to write an episode for the currently-filming second season, but that is not a definite yet. But will there be more squirrel-tossing?

Darabont spilled all these wonderful news guts at the Saturn Awards, where he accepted both the George Pal Memorial Award and the Saturn for Best TV Presentation for The Walking Dead. And while he wouldn’t reveal a lot, but what he did confirm is still pretty exciting. On Michonne:

When she [appears], she’s gonna rock your world. I can officially tell you Michonne is coming in the third season.

Holy crap — get ready. No casting is happening with that yet, because it’s part of a season that only exists in theory right now. To get an idea of how killer a character Michonne is, she is often described as “mysterious” and good with blades. The two zombies with whom she first arrives are actually her boyfriend and his best friend, and she’s been using them to keep other zombies away. Oh, and she chopped off their arms and jaws to keep them from getting all bitey and grabby and junk. In the graphic novel, she also tortured a psychotic survivor who raped her. So, yeah — not a lady to mess with.

However, the season that is happening sooner than later is the second one, which is expected to start airing in October, and might feature a collaboration by the horror master and son mentioned earlier. It seems to be a matter of working out a schedule, but Darabont assures us that they are super-psyched at the prospect:

I’m proud to say that they’re both addicted fans of the show. In fact, Steve started harassing me by email, because I sent him the first one as soon as we had a lab pressing a disc. Like a decent Blu-ray. Then he started harassing me for the next one. Because Joe would drive up from wherever he lives, because he lives an hour away, and they’d sit and watch it together. [Laughs.] He’d say, “C’mon, where’s the next one?” “It’s in the lab, Steve. We’re still mixing the sound. I’ll get it to you. I promise.

Fingers will certainly stay crossed at the prospect of that.
