2018 as Told by the Memes We Chose to Love

The memes that are most popular throughout the year can show a lot about our psyche and in 2018, they were relatively sad. Because … well … we were sad. And tired. And hungry. From talking about food to everyone fading away with Thanos and his snap, Twitter personified our struggle to exist and we thrived with it.

Rihanna became a meme we all understood with her dancing at the Grammys this year.

Because, honestly, it was a mood we understood.

Merida became a meme in her own right when she made an appearance in Ralph Breaks The Internet.

But a meme that just keeps on giving was all the jokes we made because of our love of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before.

The movie based on Jenny Han’s book brought back the romantic comedy we love so much in a new way and so, we all brought our own take on the title.

Because really, we all have a story.

Avengers: Infinity War was also a big hit with Twitter this year.

Meaning we all cried a lot and made jokes about our favorite characters dying and fading into dust.

But, at the end of the day, the greatest meme of them all will always come back to Cher.

She returned to Twitter and we all made jokes.

But isn’t that what we love about Twitter?

We still have a few days left for a great new meme but, this year, we all showed our anger, upset, and general exasperation at the state of the world in the memes we chose to love. Who knows what 2019 will bring?
