5 of Anime’s Most Powerful Fusion Characters
When in doubt, just fuse it out.
Sometimes, characters in anime must overcome insurmountable odds to defeat a foe. But in times where their powers alone aren’t enough, many anime movies and series turn to the tried-and-true trope of fusion to beat the worst baddies down. Often these fusions are downright overkill, proving more than enough to trounce anything in their path. Here are 5 fusions that could absolutely destroy anything thrown at them without any extra effort needed.
Gogeta (Dragon Ball Z / Dragon Ball Super)
There are many ways for characters to fuse in the Dragon Ball series, but the product of Goku and Vegeta doing the Fusion Dance method is by far one of the strongest. Gogeta has appeared in two movies: Fusion Reborn, where he easily trounced Super Janemba without a second thought, and Super: Broly, where transforming into Gogeta Blue was required to be able to stand a chance against Broly’s enraged form. The vest-donning fusion also appeared in Dragon Ball GT, using Super Saiyan 4 against Omega Shenron, although that fusion was a little goofier than his serious self in the two movies. Gogeta possesses a couple of devastating techniques, such as the Big Bang Kamehameha and the multicolored Stardust Breaker, a technique used to defeat Janemba.
Horakhty, The Creator of Light (Yu-Gi-Oh!)
In the original run of Yu-Gi-Oh!, some of the most powerful cards used in duels were the three Egyptian Gods: Obelisk the Tormentor, Slifer the Sky Dragon and the Winged Dragon of Ra. But when it came to defeating the evil monster Zorc Necrophades, the three gods alone weren’t enough. Instead, Atem summoned them and fused them to bring forth the Creator of Light, Horakhty. After that, it was instantly over for Zorc—the Creator of Light instantly destroyed him with a single light blast. It might have certainly been overkill, but there was no other way to end it for the original Yu-Gi-Oh! cast before moving on to the true grand finale of the original anime.
Omnimon (Digimon)
Before it seemed like every Digimon on the block could do fusion in some form, Omnimon was the first to use the trope. This legendary Digimon is the result of WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon fusing, and has been called upon more than once to take on legendary threats to the digital and real worlds. The knight Digimon first appeared in the first Digimon movie when WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon were outnumbered by thousands of Diablomon copies inside the Internet. Omnimon formed in response to encouragement from Matt, Tai, and thousands of kids around the world, leading to Omnimon swiftly handing Diablomon’s digital butt to it. It later reappeared when Diablomon returned in the following Digimon movie and lent its strength to Imperialdramon so that the fellow fusion could give Armageddomon a splitting headache.
Patchbobo (Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo)
This absurd parody anime has all kinds of unique takes on many typical shonen tropes and ideas, but fusion was by far one of its most used. The fusion between Bo-bobo and his partner Don Patch was already very powerful, but it was only when Don Patch took the lead on their fusion to become Patchbobo that they became truly unstoppable. This absurdly strong fusion can fuse any two objects he wants into a weapon, but like most fusions in the Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo universe, he only lasts a minute before he breaks apart.
Shoutmon X7F Superior Mode (Digimon Xros Wars)
Shoutmon was already an overpowered protagonist, but this fusion takes it up a notch, with Shoutmon fusing with every single Digimon to ever exist in order to achieve this form. Yes, you read that right—every Digimon EVER. Taking on X7F Superior Mode to defeat the evil MegaDarknessBagaramon, the enormous fusion reset Bagaramon’s data and turned him back into a DigiEgg, forcing him to become a good guy. Talk about absolute overkill.
