Things We Saw Today: Beverly Hills 90210 Reboot Is Gonna Get Meta
But where is Brenda?
In the era of reboots on top of reboots, one of the most iconic shows of the 90s is being rebooted … again. Well, technically 90210 on The CW was a sequel series, but the point remains, Beverly Hills, 90210 is coming back to its original parent network, Fox.
Fox announced today that it will air a “six-episode event series” this summer with a good chunk of the original cast reuniting. According to Entertainment Weekly, the cast we have confirmed so far includes Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling. EW reports that the list is not final.
Unlike a lot of other reboots, this one will have a meta-plot, with the cast, playing themselves, trying to organize the reboot of Beverly Hills, 90210. All I can say is that if Dawson’s Creek creator Kevin Williamson is available you should get him asap. However, there are two cast members missing from this list that stand out—Luke Perry and Shannen Doherty a.k.a. the OTP of a generation, Dylan and Brenda.
Luke Perry is currently on Riverdale playing Fred Andrews, and while Shannen Doherty is not on anything at the moment, her reputation is as connected to the show as her character. Having both of them return, especially in a way that is self-referential, would be amazing (since Shannen did play Brenda again on 90210, I hope she’d be open to this). Also, as Brian Austin Green has the honor of being married to Megan Fox, maybe she can make a cameo appearance and be friends with Brenda! Okay, my mind is going into fanfic mode. Leave me here.
All I have to say is that if Brenda Wash is not coming back, I will deeply be disappointed, cause I don’t need the chronicles of Kelly.
Team Brenda.
