Deadline has named a whole slew of people whom they say are be up for roles in Duncan JonesWorld of Warcraft adaptation. Colin Farrell. Anton Yelchin. And one actress who’s transcended my not really caring about a World of Warcraft movie and made me sit up and pay attention.

That would be Paula Patton, who’s reportedly “in advanced negotiations” for a lead role in the movie, which is just called Warcraft. It’s rumored that Farrell’s been offered another lead, though Deadline’s anonymous sources say it’s only 50/50 that he’ll accept. Other actors whose names popped up are Anton Yelchin (Star Trek, Charlie Bartlett), Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine, Ruby Sparks), Anson Mount (Hell on Wheels), and Travis Fimmel (Vikings).

Take these rumors with a grain of salt, as there’s been absolutely no news from anyone resembling an official source. That said, after years in development hell Warcraft finally found a director in Moon‘s Duncan Jones and a writer in Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond), so I can’t imagine we’re too far behind hearing some casting decisions.

And if even a few of these casting rumors turn out to be true? I’d be psyched. Paula Patton in an action fantasy epic would be amazing. She proved she can kick butt in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, and she’s far overdue for her own lead role in a huge Hollywood movie. Plus she’s a woman of color, so her casting would provide the flick with some much-needed racial diversity. And I will maintain until my dying breath that Farrell is one of the best actors around when he’s working with a good director, which Jones is, and a good script. I’ve never seen Mount in anything, but Dano, Yelchin, and Fimmel are all good. I’ve made no secret of my love of Vikings, so if Ragnar Lothbrok gets to swing around a giant axe and kill… whatever you kill in World of Warcraft, I will be pleased.

But who will the main characters be? Are we looking at humans? Dwarves? Night elves? Will someone be purple? Will Warcraft even really be a recognizable World of Warcraft movie, or are we just looking at a high fantasy epic with the WoW name tacked on for maximum brand recognition? What will this movie even be like?
