Trees can breathe a sigh of relief.  The iPad moved one step closer to making paper unnecessary this week by finding a place inside the backpacks of every student at Seton Hill University, a small liberal-arts college in Pennsylvania with an enrollment of about 2,100 students.  The school announced yesterday that it would begin distributing the hot item to every single full-time student this coming fall.  Heck, all the incoming freshmen even get free 13″  MacBooks!
From their release:
Beginning in the fall of 2010, all first year undergraduate students at Seton Hill will receive a 13″ MacBook laptop and an iPad. You will have complete access to these mobile technologies for classes as well as at all times for personal use. After two years, Seton Hill will replace your laptop with a new one – one that you can take with you when you graduate! With this technology at your fingertips, you can create a just-in-time learning environment, stay in touch with professors, advisors, and classmates, research any topic at any time, engage in hybrid and fully on-line courses, and access a whole host of Seton Hill technology services. In doing so, you will be learning the technological skills you’ll need in the twenty-first century workforce.
Now, many readers are probably asking the same question: “What on earth is Seton Hill? Â Is that a typo? Â Did he mean Seton Hall?” Â Well, no I didn’t, but at least a couple of folks reporting on the subject have gotten confused. Something tells us that Seton Hill’s reputation is going to get a little bigger today…
