Last week, Disney admitted that they have no plans for any Princess Leia merchandise in the Disney store, a situation of distinct irony for reasons I hope I don’t have to explain.
Allow me to anticipate your next question: yes, the Disney store does offer Star Wars merchandise these days. According to Women and Hollywood, Stormtroopers, jawas, and banthas are in supply, but the company’s most recently acquired princess property is purposefully absent. Natalie Wreyford discovered this earlier this week while tweeting with the store’s official twitter account.
@nataliewreyford Currently, there are no plans for Leia products at Disney Store, Natalie. Have a wonderful day!

The store did contact her again this morning, so hopefully there will be more to this story. As Women and Hollywood points out, little girls are the only gender and age demographic left out of the Disney Store’s merchandise categorization for Star Wars products. The omission makes it seem as though princess-oriented Disney, of all people, are worried that they will lose the boy market for Star Wars if they allow any hint of the idea that it might be “girl stuff” escape.
Princess Leia herself, Carrie Fisher, is still chatting about Star Wars, even though she’s “gotten in a lot of trouble” for it (maybe for talking about her fitness routine?). It’s okay, Ms. Fisher, we still love you. Even though, as she says, she initially had a rocky relationship with them, she’s fighting for the reappearance of her signature hairstyle.
I’m fighting for the buns, but that’s always what I’m doing. I think they should make an appearance if I just walked by a rocket window and I was in buns.
Fisher says that she hated the buns while filming the first Star Wars film, but as a young actress was so worried about disagreeing with her director that she kept mum about it with George Lucas.
