Heroes help.

Yale Stewart, creator of one of our favorite webcomics, JL8, is raising money for victims of Super Typhoon Haiya in the Philippines with this background of a young Justice League showing up to help. It’s an inspiring image, and it’s already raised nearly $6,000 for UNICEF. If you’re looking to help, we have the link.

The background is being offered for a pay-what-you-want donation to UNICEF through Gumroad.com, and if you really want to help out the original art for the image is being auctioned off on eBay. The current bid is $560.

We spoke to Stewart via email last night about the effort. He told us:

I know that if something were to happen here in St. Louis (my hometown and where I live), or America in general, I’d appreciate if the global community lent us a helping hand. To me, it just seems like the right thing to do. Really, what it boils down to is the fact that I’ve been incredibly fortunate with JL8, and it seems fairly hypocritical to write and draw stories about heroes (no matter how young) and not try to make an impact myself.
Stewart has created similar images for other disasters including the Boston Marathon bombing.
