Resident Evil 6 Is Definitely “The Final Chapter” (For The Movies, Not The Games)

The sixth Resident Evil film will be the last, just as its full title promises, according to actress Ali Larter, who will reprise her role as Claire Redfield. More specifically, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter will be an intentional conclusion to the complex alternate canon of the Resident Evil film franchise. Here’s what Larter told IGN about the upcoming movie:

I am held to secrecy, but what I can tell you is that the script is amazing. They’re really wrapping up the whole series, so that just makes it a little more poignant. To be able to come back and reprise my role as Claire and my relationship with Alice, with Umbrella Corp. — you know, I’m excited to get back in it. I think the fans are just going to be beyond excited.

Of course, the “fans” she refers to here aren’t necessarily Resident Evil fans, but specifically, the small intersection of Resident Evil fans who enjoy the alternate timelines created by these films. The Resident Evil movies have gained an undeniable cult following, in spite of the many differences between the films’ canon and the games’ canon. (See? Sometimes nerds aren’t that picky about sweeping changes made in film adaptations! Sometimes.)

Larter went on to say:

How many movies have this kind of fanbase and get to be made six times? I think that’s extraordinary. It’s a total testament to [series star] Milla [Jovovich] and Paul. I’m so grateful to them, that they chose me to be a part of it halfway through, and they’ve kept me along for the ride. I love that it’s not seven men and one woman. I mean, these are two women, and they’re not competing with each other. You know, there are such easy clichés these two could fall into, but this is definitely a female power movie.

The main thing the films and the games do have in common? Lots of female leads kicking zombie butts.
