Although it first debuted last June, the French animated film Tout en haut du monde translated as Long Way North is gradually making its expedition to theaters around the world. The film is directed by Rémi Chayé, who also worked on the Oscar-nominated feature The Secret of Kells. You can watch the subbed trailer above.

Hand-drawn and absolutely gorgeous, Long Way North centers around a female protagonist, Sasha, a young Russian aristocrat in 1892 Saint Petersburg, Russia. When her father, a renowned explorer, doesn’t return from his expedition to the North Pole she runs away to find him.

The film, which is now in French theaters, has been picked up by Shout! Factory and will likely make its way into American theaters sometime this year (if you’re not U.S. check this ScreenDaily list). Will you be checking it out?
