Prepare your feels, moviegoers and video game enthusiasts: Firewatch is coming to theaters. Campo Santo’s hit first person story-focused game is getting the theatrical treatment, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It sounds like something of a match made in heaven as anybody who’s played Firewatch can tell you. The game, which places its incredibly intriguing story at the center of the table, certainly felt like something out of an animated feature. Aside from its strikingly gorgeous, iconic visuals and its focus on immersive gameplay techniques, its story is nothing short of top notch.

For those unaware, the plot revolves around a man named Henry who gets a job doing firewatch (hence the name) over the Shoshone National Forest in Wyoming. It’s a lonely job, and the only other human contact Henry regularly has is his supervisor and firewatch partner in another tower, Delilah. It’s between the two of them and their regular conversations that the game’s gripping (and at times eerie) story unfolds.

Part of the reason Firewatch‘s story packs such an emotional punch is in its voice cast. Rich Sommers (Mad Men) voices the player character, Henry, and Cissy Jones (The Walking Dead) plays Delilah. Both of them perform their roles with incredible skill, and help to humanize the essentially unseen characters. Whether they’ll be involved in the creation of the movie has yet to be seen, though one hopes that they’ll be around somehow, ideally to reprise their roles. Much of the plot of Firewatch also revolves around the branching dialogue choices made by the player, so it’ll be interesting to see which “type” of story they decide to go with for the movie.

All in all, I believe Firewatch totally belongs on the big screen, and I’m stoked to see it and Campo Santo get the recognition they so richly deserve.
