Not that you needed extra convincing, but Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is here to let you know that Black Panther will be awesome. In fact, the studio is so confident in the movie that they allowed a bunch of journalists to see raw footage. Unfortunately, TMS wasn’t there but I’m sure it was because our invitation was somehow lost in the mail. Yeah … we’ll go with that.

Anyway, here’s Feige talking about why everyone is so pumped for the movie (which also comes with its own Twitter hashtag, #BlackPantherSoLit).  “I think it’s two things,” he said, per Vulture. “Black Panther is a huge part of the Marvel Comics mythology, and has been for 50-plus years. Other than his awesome, relatively brief appearance in Civil War, his history has been relatively untapped.”

Black Panther stalking Bucky Barnes like the Bride from Kill Bill was one of the best things about Civil War, along with Florence Kasumba as the scene-stealing bodyguard who tells Black Widow, “Move or you will be moved. ” Bless this queen. But that’s what is great about the film set in Wakanda. It’s so unapologetically black, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. Chadwick Boseman stars in the titular role, alongside Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, Forest Whitaker, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman (one of the few non-black cast members), Sterling K. Brown, and Daniel Kaluuya. Ryan Coogler, the man behind Creed and Fruitvale Station, directed the project.

“It’s really exciting that this part of the universe is so unbelievably diverse and looks unlike any of the other films that we’ve made,” Feige added. “The cast looks different than any of the other casts that we’ve had. Both in front of and behind the camera, it’s almost entirely people of color, which I think is a special, important thing, and one of the reasons the film will be unique and as great as I think it’s going to be.”

Black Panther, which recently wrapped filming, heads to theater on February 16, 2018.
