Everyone Is Dunking on Trump for Tweeting That He “Took A Pass” on TIME’s Person of the Year

I try to only highlight the national embarrassment that is Trump’s Twitter feed when it specifically points to his poisonous policies, racism, or attacks on American citizens. Generally, I try to let the pettiness lie sad and unacknowledged where it belongs, but the internet is doing a great job today, and I wanted to grin at it.

Trump recently claimed that he “took a pass” on TIME’s Person of the Year honor on Twitter today, because he would have had to “agree to an interview and a major photo shoot.” (Trump was named Person of the Year last year.)

Trump has had a weird obsession with TIME Magazine for a long time, frequently tweeting about the Person of the Year honor in the past and even doctoring a fake TIME Magazine cover to hang in his resorts. Unfortunately for him, TIME Magazine almost immediately pointed out that this recent tweet was a lie.

Of course, while TIME was interested in correcting Trump’s story, the rest of Twitter was here for the lulz. Celebrities and dinosaurs across the platform have been doing a number with this absurd claim, so I wanted to showcase some of my favorites.

The Twitterati also had some excellent suggestions for who should be Person of the Year in Trump’s place:

  • Colin Kaepernick
  • The Resistance
  • Hillary Clinton
  • Robert Mueller

Who would be your pick? I will accept both earnest and maximum-Trump-trolling answers (which, let’s be real, may overlap).
