1960s TV Batman Returns as Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar Voice New Animated Film
The great thing about animation is that it isn’t dependent on an actor’s physicality. As long as the performer has a distinct vocal performance, literally anything can happen — including having Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar get back into their skin-tight costumes! There’s a new DC animated film on the horizon, and it’s all about 1960s TV Batman.
The new animated feature film is called Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, and you can check out the hilarious trailer above!
It definitely seems to have the wacky sensibility of the 1960s live-action series starring West and Ward, and hearing those two uttering these lines is priceless. In addition to an inexplicable (but a totally appropriate homage to the source material) scenario in which Batman and Robin somehow get tied up on a giant lunch tray, West’s Batman also tease the film’s villains: Joker, Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman.
And that’s the other great news. According to Entertainment Weekly, Julie Newmar will also return to reprise her role as Catwoman. Sadly, Cesar Romero, Burgess Meredith, and Frank Gorshin are no longer with us to reprise their roles. Hopefully whatever voice actors they get will be appropriately zany. *crosses fingers hoping that Mark Hamill’s Joker is somehow involved*
Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and DC Entertainment, comes to Digital HD on Oct. 11 and Blu-Ray on Nov. 1.
