Instead of the Live-Action Oscar Isaac Reboot We Deserve, We’re Getting a New Animated Addams Family Movie

Recommended Videos

In keeping with 2017’s unifying theme of, “None of you can have nice things,” MGM has announced a new Addams Family film – but it’ll be computer-animated. The CG film will be helmed by Sausage Party director Conrad Vernon, with a screenplay from Corpse Bride and Monster House scribe Pamela Pettler. Pettler’s screenplay reportedly draws from cartoonist Charlie Addams’s original comic strips, rather than the 1960s TV series or ’90s films.

The internet has been fancasting a live-action Addams Family reboot for months, mostly with Oscar Isaac as Gomez and either Ruth Negga or Eva Green as Morticia. (How can I even choose a preference between those two?!) The casting is so obviously perfect that the fan-made trailer below, for an imaginary Netflix reboot, actually fooled a number of people into thinking it was already in production.

But, alas. Instead, we will get an animated film. Honestly, I think The Addams Family is super fun, so I’ll still be happy to see a CG version – and we can hold out hope that the internet’s dreamcast will at least be realized when they cast the voice actors for the movie.

For now, we’ll just have to be content with these wonderful looks at glory-that-could-be.
