Ben Affleck Breaks Silence On Batman Casting
Holy Rusted Metal Batman!
Yes, it’s true, Ben Affleck has finally talked about being cast as Batman. And no, this isn’t a joke. The actor went on Late Night Jimmy Fallon where the host asked him about his reaction on being asked, his excitement, and what he thinks of The Internet.
“Every kid should see their dad as a superhero, right?” said Affleck as soon as Jimmy Fallon brought up the elephant in the room. Here’s what he had to say about the initial casting:
It’s so awesome, man. I’m so excited. It was like, they called me up and said, ‘Do you want to do this?’ And I thought, ‘I’m not 25, man, are you sure about this?’ They said, ‘Come down, we wanna show you what we’re doing.’ And it was incredible. Zack Snyder’s directing it, he has this incredible take on it that’s like…obviously you can’t do what Christian [Bale] did, those movies were amazing. And so he wants to something different but still in keeping with that.
But then the conversation turned to the unique warning the studio gave Affleck. “I thought this was a brilliant way to do this and I really know how to hook into this. And I said, ‘Okay, I wanna do it,’ and the people from the studio were like, ‘We’re thrilled, we’re so excited…’ and they arranged it,” he said. “And they said, ‘Listen, we want to talk to you because people go through this process and it’s a little bit, you know, it can be trying.’ I said, ‘What do you mean?’ ‘So we want to show you some of the reactions that past cast members, people who’ve been cast have gotten on the internet.’
What? Like some of these reactions? Anyway, they showed him first reactions to actors cast in superhero roles who wound up doing fantastic jobs in the end.
These things were like, ‘KILL HIM!’ And he was amazing! You can’t say before the movie comes out. It doesn’t matter what people think then, it matters what you think when you see the movie obviously. But I was like, ‘I’m a big boy. I don’t need to…I can handle any snub. I can handle anything.’ They said, ‘Just don’t use the internet for a couple of days,’ but this is not…I handle shit! I’m very tough. So they said the announcement, I look on this thing, I looked on the first comment and it like ‘Ben Affleck’s Gonna Be Batman,’ and the first one just goes, ‘NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!’ And I was done! We’re going to be Luddites for a while.
But Affleck remains positive because of what he’s seen so far, none of which he can tell us about. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara was recently quoted as saying Warner’s foundation for their usual 12-14 films a year will be DC Entertainment. Though he didn’t name any films specifically, he did say “Batman vs. Superman,” which is another indication that may be the real title of Man of Steel 2.
