Mack Is Back on Agents of SHIELD; Henry Simmons Upped to Series Regular
Mack + Fitz = 4eva
Thankfully, it’s not just the “generically handsome white dudes” that are coming back to Agents of SHIELD next season.
Henry Simmons, who plays Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie on the show, has just been upped to series regular status, and rightfully so, as his character has emerged as being one of the most interesting and nuanced in the ensemble. From his ruse as a team player, to his idealistic view of The Real SHIELD, to his loyalty to Bobbi, to his conflicted feelings about the members of Coulson’s team, Mack has been someone to keep an eye on. Best of all is his deepening friendship with Fitz. It was amazing to watch this athletic-looking super-agent and the damaged science geek bond so much, showing that there was more to Mack than big muscles and the ability to shoot a gun.
And of course, with Trip no longer being on the show, it’s nice to see that SHIELD isn’t getting rid of all of their men of color. Here’s hoping that Mack won’t lose his nuance and personality in the coming season.
