If you’re a fan of Star Wars—and specifically of Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Mandalorian—then you’re probably excited about Ahsoka Tano’s new Disney+ live-action series, Ahsoka.

During season 2 of The Mandalorian, we saw a live-action version of Tano for the first time, played by Rosario Dawson. Tano was originally introduced in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, as Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan whose journey was just beginning. According to Dave Filoni, creator of the new series, Ahsoka will continue that journey.

“[Ahsoka] is definitely driving toward a goal, in my mind, as opposed to being little singular adventures,” Filoni said to Variety. “That’s what I want the character to be doing, and I think that’s what fans want now. They have such a relationship with her. I’ve only recently started to understand that all those kids that watched Clone Wars are now a lot older—they’re very excited about all the things they grew up with, as they should be.”

When will Ahsoka premiere?

Filming of Ahsoka started in May 2022. At Star Wars Celebration 2023, it was announced that the series would be released in August, 2023. Then, on May 17, 2023, it appeared that Disney-affiliated website Disney Movie Insiders published a release date of August 31, 2023, but if so, it has since been deleted.

Previously, we did not have an exact date for the release of the show. However, Dawson was interviewed on TODAY With Hoda & Jenna, where she told fans to keep a lookout for the series later this year. “Ahsoka, yeah, that’s probably gonna come out in the fall,” Dawson said. “We’re gonna have Haunted Mansion come out in August first, and I just did some beautiful Disney+ commercial voice-over. And I’m like, have I just become a Disney Princess?”

Currently, the show is set to be a miniseries, so it’s possible that it will only have one season. Stay tuned!

Watch the Star Wars Celebration 2023 Ahsoka trailer!

We have seen Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian and heard how she spoke about Anakin. We’ve seen Rosario Dawson standing next to Mark Hamill in The Book of Boba Fett, but now we’re getting ready to see her in her very own show! The trailer for Ahsoka is our first look into what Dave Filoni has in store for her, as well as getting to meet Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Hera and seeing more of Natasha Liu Bordizzo!

With a character like Ahsoka Tano, we’ve just been waiting for this. She became a fan favorite in The Clone Wars and has just constantly been someone fans wanted in the live-action stories. And while the wait was a long one since her introduction into the canon in 2008, this look at Ahsoka shows us that the worth was … well, worth it.

The trailer debuted at Star Wars Celebration and gave fans an emotional look into our favorite girl.

This trailer shows the power that Ahsoka has mixed with her collection of friends and family who are willing to fight at her side, and it just really shows why we love her so much.

Now … who can figure out that back of a head? Because knowing that Grand Admiral Thrawn is here and ready to wreak havoc on Ahsoka is menacing and perfect. Fans have been waiting for Thrawn to appear, and for so many, their dream choices for actors to play him have been in Star Wars as other characters. And so the fact that we’ve not yet gotten confirmation on who he is? Interesting to say the least.

But there is still a panel for Ahsoka to come, so we might get an answer yet, but until then, this trailer is going to take fans a lot of time to mark out all those easter eggs from The Clone Wars.

What is the plot of Ahsoka?

If you saw Tano in Mando, you know she revealed that she is looking for Grand Admiral Thrawn, who is missing. At the end of Star Wars: Rebels, you see Tano taking off with Sabine Wren, which is most likely where the new show will pick up: with the two joining in the search for their lost Jedi friend, Ezra Bridger. Ezra went missing while on a mission to take Thrawn out.

Who stars in Ahsoka?

Rosario Dawson is reprising her role as Tano alongside Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker. However, it’s unclear which version Christensen will be playing or how old he’ll be. Natasha Liu Bordizzo will portray Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead will play Hera Syndulla, and Ray Stevenson has also been cast in an unknown role, though Stevenson is reportedly playing the series’ main villain.

Dawson was a pretty clear choice to play Ahsoka, as fans loved her in the role in The Mandalorian. However, some fans do wish that Ashley Eckstein would get to play Ahsoka, as she voiced the character in The Clone Wars. Never fear! Eckstein is appearing as a guest star on Ahsoka.

Similarly, fans also speculate about Christensen coming back to play Anakin. While we don’t know for sure what his character will look like or what age he will be, we can assume that if Anakin and Ahsoka are together we will be getting some form of callback to The Clone Wars. That means we might get to see younger Anakin interacting with his padawan in a flashback scene. Honestly, we can’t wait.
