Sources Say Alden Ehrenreich Currently in the Lead to Play Young Han Solo in Star Wars Story Flick

Recommended Videos

Seems like that young Han Solo Star Wars Story movie (you know, the one totally rare Star Wars film that stars a *gasp* white male actor) is inching ever closer to casting its lead. There’s nothing confirmed quite yet, so consider this a rumor and speculation, but according to sources close to Deadline, Alden Ehrenreich is currently the favorite to play the young smuggler in the upcoming movie. Last we heard, the front-runners were down to Taron Egerton, Jack Reynor, and Ehrenreich. Egerton you may recognize from Kingsman: The Secret Service, and Reynor you’ll likely remember if you caught Transformers: Age of Extinction. Ehrenreich’s credits include Hail, Caesar! and Blue Jasmine.

Again: consider these all rumors until confirmed otherwise. Apparently it was Ehrenreich’s performance in Hail, Caesar! that pushed him ahead of the others. Speaking personally, I’m still just a tiny bit disappointed that Anthony Ingruber didn’t even make the shortlist of actors who could play Solo. The guy’s fantastic, and who knows, he could still maybe sorta kinda hopefully ohwhoamIkidding come out of left field… ? Ah, well. Moreover, there’s still plenty of actresses that we’d love to see take on the role. I mean… can you just imagine? *wistful sigh*

But this being the world we live in, it’s likely that we’ll see somebody get announced real soon, seeing as how they should start filming real soon—the movie’s supposed to come out in 2018.
