Amanda Plummer Signs On to Die in The Hunger Games
May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor
In today’s edition of Still-Not-Finnick casting news, Amanda Plummer has signed on to play Wiress in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, due in theaters November 22, 2013. Don’t consider yourself spoiled by the title, we’re just saying — if you sign up to act in a movie that features a “Quarter Quell”, you’ve probably made peace with your character’s potential death.
Amanda Plummer, best known for her role as Honey Bunny in Pulp Fiction, will take on the role of Wiress, the lovable and eccentric former Hunger Games winner whose “observations and contributions prove invaluable” to the plot of the film. Wiress is nicknamed “Nuts” due to the mental state she was left in after experiencing the trauma of the Hunger Games — it will be interesting to see how they portray her in the film, and how Plummer will fare portraying an intellectually brilliant but almost non-verbal character.
In a franchise rife with casting drama, there is textual evidence to support Wiress being white (District 3 residents are described as having “ashen” skin in the novel). While I’m happy to see Plummer cast as Wiress (and I’m sure she’ll do an excellent job) let’s just say I’m still waiting on the edge of my seat to see who will be cast as Finnick.
