Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles Rights Secured by Universal, More Vampire Movies Incoming

Too! Too many vampire movies! Ah ah ah ah.

It looks like Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment have sympathy for the devil: They—along with Brian Grazer—have secured the rights to Anne Rice’s entire series of Vampire Chronicles novels. Although, the only way they’ll ever have time to make movies out of all those books is if they’re undead immortals.

The deal includes all of the novels in the series, which centers around 18th century vampire Lestat de Lioncourt. They even managed to secure the upcoming book Prince Lestat, so there’s plenty of material to draw from for whatever the studios have planned for the movies.

There are no details yet on whether this will reboot previous film adaptations like Interview With the Vampire or if it will have anything to do with Universal’s planned monster movie universe, but Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who are working on The Mummy and Van Helsing will produce, so anything’s possible.

So what do you think? Are you happy for Rice? Sick of vampire movies? Happy for Rice but still sick of vampire movies? I wouldn’t blame you—movies and TV have latched on to vampires and won’t let go until they suck the life right out of them.
