This summer’s Ant-Man and The Wasp was a breath of fresh air, bringing some much-needed levity to the MCU after the heartbreaking events of Avengers: Infinity War. The film was a great blend of humor and action, along with the inventive special effects we’ve come to expect from the Ant-Man franchise. With the Blu-ray release set for next month, Marvel has given us a sneak peak at two deleted scenes from the film.

The first deleted scene gives us a glimpse of Walton Goggins’ Sonny Burch and his henchmen, as they watch security cam footage of Dr. Hank Pym’s shrinking laboratory. The man showing them the footage is Dave Gruber Allen (Love), who will forever be Freaks and Geeks‘ Mr. Rosso to me. The scene is brief and perfunctory, but the second deleted scene takes us back to the Quantum Realm.

In the second scene, Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) shows her husband Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) around the alien world of the microverse, where she has been stranded for 30 years. Janet says, “there’s so much we didn’t know about this place, Henry. Worlds upon worlds, entire civilizations, far more than we ever theorized.” A globular entity tries to stop the couple, but Janet uses a translator (that she presumably built herself) to let the entity know she is just traveling through. The glob tells her to go in peace, as Hank stars on in wonder.

Paul Rudd said of the scene, “If she is alive, what would that place look like and what would have been going on while she was there and not up on terra firma? This idea that there are other things down there that you could interact with is interesting, and God knows there are tardigrades and all kinds of microscopic things. Treating it almost like outer space made sense.”

This scene, combined with the concept art for Janet by Jackson Sze, has me longing for a Janet van Dyne survival spin-off that follows her adventures in the Quantum Realm. If there are in fact, entire worlds and civilizations within the microverse, the story possibilities are endless. Imagine an entire series of Janet’s adventures: it would be Castaway meets Star Trek. I’m sure a Janet van Dyne solo adventure hour is pretty far down on the list of priorities for Marvel, but a girl can dream, right?

In the meantime, we’ll have to wait and see what comes of the dusted Pym family in Avengers 4.
