We Need to Talk About Ant-Man and The Wasp‘s Vital Post-Credits Scene

Ant-Man and The Wasp post-credits scene

*** SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! ***

Now that Ant-Man and The Wasp has hit theaters, we can finally yell about that post-credits scene.

I’m going to assume that from here on in you’ve either seen the movie or don’t mind being spoiled on what happens, because, one more time for the people in the back, SPOILERS!

Onward:

After the relatively light-hearted fun that is Ant-Man and The Waspthe post-credits scene sure packs a wallop and also ties in directly to Avengers: Infinity War and no doubt the events of Avengers 4.

We see Scott Lang and the newly reunited Pym/Van Dyne family working on a shrunk-down version of the Quantum tunnel that fits into the back of a van. Scott goes into the Quantum Realm via the tunnel to collect some healing particles to help Ghost (which makes me hope, very much, that Ava gets to stick around as a member of the Ant-Man-Wasp team in the future).

Then Significant Future Plot Point #1 happens: Janet Van Dyle tells Scott to be careful not to get caught in any time vortices, because they won’t be able to pull him out. This is the first real mention of time travel/manipulation we’ve had since Doctor Strange, and it would seem to be a pretty big nod to events that could happen in Avengers 4.

Due to set photos that seem to indicate our heroes somehow revisit the 2012 Avengers Battle for New York, many have speculated that going back in time—or something related—may be important to reversing Thanos’ Gauntlet snap. Since Paul Rudd was seen in those New York-based set pictures, it seems like Scott plays a part there. Scott also is, at current, the only person that the Avengers know who might be able to access the past, because …

Significant Future Plot Point #2: Scott becomes trapped in the Quantum Realm, as Hope, Hank, and Janet all fall victim to the Snapture and are no longer there to bring him out of the tunnel. This is huge, and now we know why no one from Ant-Man and The Wasp showed up in Infinity War, and also why there’s no sign of The Wasp in that leaked Avengers 4 promo art. Poor Scott is flying solo again.

Gasps abounded in my theater as we saw dust floating where Hope, Hank, and Janet had just been. What a way to yank us all back into the Avengers world from the cozy family-friendly antics of Ant-Man and The Wasp.

This twist would also seem to confirm all those hints that the Quantum Realm is going to be an important part of the Avengers 4 puzzle. How will Scott get out of there—or does he help bring everyone else in? Could he possibly use Quantum entanglement to contact the Avengers (maybe his good buddy Cap)? If theories that everyone Snaptured still exist within the Soul Stone prove true, could the combined genius and Quantum expertise of Hank, Janet, and Hope be crucial to helping turn this whole thing around? Who finds the Quantum tunnel van? And what’s the deal with those time vortices?

I still have so many questions. What struck you about the post-credits scene?
