The Apple Watch Puts Its Best Face Forward In Vogue‘s September Issue

Along with Covergirl's Star Wars line, Amazon Fashion, and more.

Vogue‘s annual September issue is kind of a big deal, which is why it’s cool to see Beyoncé on the cover, and also why it’s surprising to see wearable tech making an appearance in its pages. An advertising spread for the Apple Watch takes up a few pages in the issue.

The watch always struck me as a pure luxury item that, for better or for worse, lacks the fun-meets-function appeal of other iOS devices; Apple’s decision to showcase the watch in the pages of Vogue‘s fashion bible makes a certain kind of sense. After all, Vogue often blends aspirational fashion items with coverage of more accessible fare, and the Apple Watch certainly falls into the former category. If you ask me, the watch’s design is still more more “Dick Tracy” rather than “Tiffany’s tennis bracelet,” but at least Apple seems to know they need to market the piece as a fashion item rather than as a practical necessity.

Other technology-related appearances in Vogue‘s September issue include Amazon Fashion (which is a phrase that Amazon is trying to make happen, I guess, and it might work given how many purchases people already make there), and the droid makeup design from CoverGirl’s Star Wars makeup line. Hey, at least CoverGirl’s affordable.

Did you pick up the Vogue bible this month? Anything in there strike your fancy?
