Since one of the first She-Hulk: Attorney at Law trailers dropped, fans knew Daredevil would pop up in the Disney Plus series. We also knew that Charlie Cox, who played Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the Netflix series Daredevil, would return to the role in a brand new golden suit. What was unclear was exactly how he would play into the MCU rule-breaking series.

Not only did Daredevil’s addition to She-Hulk feel like a boon to the plotline, but it also gave Matt Murdock and Jen Walters a chance to have fun. A very adorable romance between Matt and Jen (and their superhero alter egos) blossomed. Now, I am not one to usually ship canon or heterosexual couples, but the Daredevil/She-Hulk romance has me head-over-heels in love.

The Meet-Cute

In episode 8, “Ribbit and Rip It,” Charlie Cox made his She-Hulk debut. Jen’s client Eugene was suing superhero fashion designer Luke Jacobson for making a faulty costume. Enter Matt Murdock to defend Luke. As all the fans cheered at home, Jen looked at the camera and asked “Who’s this asshole?” Which I love her even more for. After Jen lost the case (due to her client using the product incorrectly, not because of her lawyering skills), the two lawyers ended up meeting in the local lawyer-dedicated bar. While not on opposing sides of the law, the two had obvious chemistry.

It turned out they were destined to meet again because of the case, this time in their superhero forms. Jen’s client kidnapped Luke to force him to make another suit, so Daredevil and She-Hulk had to intercede. A misunderstanding led to a fight between the two. During the fight, She-Hulk lifted Daredevil up like a little kitten and removed his helmet, and found out he was the same lawyer she had just been flirting with.

Once they realized they needed to team up to save Luke, the sparks started flying. Matt explained to Jen that although he is blind, his other senses are heightened. Like he can hear the heartbeats of all the minions in the building. He also noted her heartbeat had picked up substantially as he got closer to her, which is a textbook Daredevil fanfiction line. While they battled Eugene’s goons, the sparks flew, especially when Daredevil started spitting that hot lawyer jargon.

Time to smash

After the police took the criminals away, Matt and Jen decompressed. Matt reiterated he was due to return home soon. He was sad they wouldn’t be able to go on a proper date. Jen said it wasn’t a problem and they could cut right to the good stuff. The next scene showed Jen helping/pulling Matt out of his Daredevil costume and into her room.

This scene was so wonderful because of their chemistry and something that has been building throughout the season. Jen has struggled to find decent men to connect with that actually appreciated her. Yes, she found a few guys to go on dates with but most of them were terrible. The one guy that seemed cool only gave her the time of day if she was in She-Hulk form. He almost seemed repulsed by Jen. Matt, however, is all about regular Jen, and She-Hulk just seems to be a bonus.

Where they stand

(Marvel Entertainment)

The morning after their night of passion, Matt did the best walk of shame in cinema history. Both parties seemed happy enough if it was a one-and-done or open for more in the future, with no pressure either way. In the season finale, Daredevil showed up just as all the drama wrapped up. And that is fine because Jen can handle all her drama herself.

Since Matt was already there, he stayed the week with Jen, which resulted in an adorable domestic barbecue scene with Jen’s family where her parents asked about grandchildren. It was beautiful. Again, Matt and Jen both are alright about how things are, and they’re just seeing how it goes. At least they have a week to spend together. Sadly, Hell’s Kitchen is a very long way from Los Angeles, making their relationship future uncertain. But I believe these crazy kids could make it work. Let them be happy, they deserve it! And, if nothing else, at least we have fanfiction.
