Arrested Development Unexpectedly Gets Even More Actual Episodes

and let it be known

The saga of Arrested Development has been one of long odds, and more than that, it’s one where those odds have actually paid off for fans. Their long lost show is getting a movie… and a whole new season. Certainly that would be enough for Community or Firefly fan, but not for Arrested Development.

Because Arrested Development fans were expecting ten new episodes, and now they’re getting more.

From Deadline:

During production on the 10 new episodes ordered by Netflix, [Mitch] Hurwitz shot more material than planned and also came up with ideas for additional scenes and storylines. Hurwitz, producing studio 20th Century Fox TV and Imagine TV approached Netflix, which agreed to expand the order to what I hear will be 12-15 episodes.

Naturally, more episodes will require more filming, and with the actors schedules all over the place, the network has paused production in order to let Hurwitz look over his existing footage (some of which will go into the new shows) and figure out the most efficient way to get the new stuff filmed and how many more episodes there will be. Deadline ballparks it at 12-15. Still, even with the pause, the shoot is expected to resume in late January, and the whole thing is on target for a “spring premiere date,” when all of the new episodes will be released at the same time.

Arrested Development fans, I’m sure you already know how lucky you are, so make sure to be extra nice to the Community fans you know this holiday season.
