Egg On My Face: Arrow Casts Australian Actor For Ra’s al Ghul

Oh dear.

Remember the other day when I was saying Arrow has a pretty great track record for hiring POCs for POC roles? Well, I guess we can’t have it all.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals Australian actor Matt Nable has landed the role previously played by Liam Neeson in Christopher Nolan’s Batman films. I personally have not seen Nable in anything but he’s recently starred in Riddick and Fell. THR writes:

He will first appear in the fourth episode, “The Magician,” also Arrow’s 50th milestone. The leader of the League of Assassins and father of Nyssa al Ghul (Katrina Law), Ra’s is proud and unforgiving. A ruthless strategist, a master of martial arts and a shaper of history, Ra’s carries the wisdom of the ages and protects some of its greatest secrets.

Ra’s al Ghul’s presence was expected, but we really hoped they’d cast someone with an Middle Eastern background. All I can glean from Nable’s wikipedia and IMDB page are that he’s from Australia.

The CW also released an all-new trailer for Season 3 today.

Thoughts on the casting?
