Check How Old Your Ears Are With AsapSCIENCE’s Hearing Test [Video]
What's that? WHAT? SPEAK UP I CAN'T HEAR YOU
Everybody remembers those annoying ringtones that could only be heard by people under the age of 40, right? Well, there’s a scientific reason why that’s possible, and AsapSCIENCE is here to tell you about it. You know, in addition to testing how high a frequency you can actually hear yourself.
If you’re a young person and you can’t hear as well as you think you should be able to according to this test, then don’t freak out yet. Remember that you have to be watching at 1080p for it to work properly (I made that mistake earlier and boy did I feel old for a second there). Also, the 19000 Hz test doesn’t work according to the people at AsapSCIENCE, because it was lost when Youtube compressed the video.
Finally, if your hearing still taps out at a lower frequency then you’d expect, it might not entirely be your fault — apparently our reliance on poor quality headphones, combined with the fact that most of today’s music is mastered with a smaller dynamic range that can adversely affect hearing, is making us all deafer at a much faster rate than usual. You might not be able to reverse the damage, but you can take steps to ensure that it doesn’t get any worse.
