The Official Synopsis For Avengers: Age Of Ultron Is Making Us Wish We Could See It Right Now
Ughh we have to get through the whole winter first.
The next Marvel film, Avengers: Age of Ultron, isn’t out for another eight months (how are we supposed to make it that long?!); so, to placate us, Walt Disney Pictures has released the film’s official synopsis.
Judging by this description, I think it’s pretty safe to say Ultron probably isn’t going to end in a dance off:
Marvel Studios presents “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.
The synopsis goes on to say that all the Avengers are returning (including Samuel L. Jackson as Fury and Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill) in order to defeat James Spader’s Ultron, “a terrifying technological villain hell bent on human extinction,” as you are when you’re horribly evil. The team, of course, will also “confront” Wanda and Pietro Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson; and will “meet an old friend in a new form” when Paul Bettany (formerly Jarvis) takes on the role of Vision.
Even though Guardians of the Galaxy has narrowly inched past the original Avengers for me as my favorite Marvel film, I’m incredibly hopeful that Ultron re-takes the crown. If there’s one thing Whedon is good at, it’s taking big ensemble stories and making them into something dark, moving, and personal – and that’s what I’m hoping we get in Ultron. I mean, yeah, some sweet action too – but mostly the other stuff.
