Get Excited for Avengers: Infinity War With Marvel’s Teaser From the Set
To celebrate the first day of filming in Atlanta, Marvel Entertainment released a teaser for Avengers: Infinity War. The video is depressingly wall-to-wall white men, but it also delivers hype-worthy concept art, clips from the set, and confirmation of what fans have long expected. “In Avengers: Infinity War, the Avengers will meet the Guardians of the Galaxy,” said Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios.
“Avengers: Infinity War is the culmination of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe,” said Feige. “And it really is an unprecedented culmination of a series of films interlinked together…For us, the important thing is making it all come together.”
Feige also talked up Thanos, the movie’s long-teased villain. “Thanos shows us why he is the biggest, the best, the baddest villain that we’ve ever had, and the most frightening villain that The Avengers have ever faced.” Now, that bar isn’t particularly high, given that villains are usually the weak spot in Marvel’s film canon, and even the general exception to that rule, Loki, is next-level petty. Thanos doesn’t have to do much to leave the MCU’s other villains behind him. But I am curious to see how exactly Thanos “shows” his might. (I hope it’s not yet another city-destroying scene.)
Joe Russo promised that the movie would be “a really combustible, exciting, massive-scale adventure,” and the concept art does seem to suggest that. I am personally pumped for the absurdity squared that is Thor and Rocket Raccoon in the same scene, and the concept art of a de-helmeted Thanos had me excited for some intense Josh Brolin scenes.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, Avengers: Infinity War stars–get ready for the list–Paul Bettany, Chadwick Boseman (rumored), Josh Brolin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Vin Diesel, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen, Chris Pratt, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldana, Sebastian Stan, and many others. It opens in theaters on May 4, 2018.
