The Avengers To Team Up With Phineas and Ferb
My Spidey Sense Is Tingling
After fighting off hordes of Chitauri and nearly destroying the entirety of New York City, you’d think The Avengers might sneak in a little downtime notwithstanding their post-battle shawarma run. But as you’d probably guess, Disney wouldn’t dream of temporarily putting this $1 billion cash cow out to pasture — so, in a new crossover announced at Comic-Con, our favorite Marvel heroes will come swinging, smashing, and hammer-flying into the universe of Phineas and Ferb in the summer of 2013.
The crossover episode, entitled “Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel,” will have Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor and Hulk robbed of their powers and dropped into Danville as part of a plot orchestrated by the evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz. Additionally, the heroes will have to battle four iconic super-villains — the Red Skull, Whiplash, Venom and M.O.D.O.K. — who are in cahoots with Dr. Doofenshmirtz. It’s too bad this episode will turn out to be such a boy’s only club — where’s Black Widow?
As The LA Times points out, Disney never does anything accidental with their properties. Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Thor all have major movies slated for 2013 and 2014, ABC is planning a live-action Hulk TV series, and Whiplash, Venom and Red Skull have all been featured in films. Say, do we know who the villain is for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, yet? This isn’t the first time M.O.D.O.K. has been mentioned as a potential villain for the Captain America sequel — even Christopher Markus, one of the The First Avenger’s screenwriters, mentioned back in August 2011 that he’d love to see the super-smart floating creep to make an appearance in the on-screen Captain America world: “I love M.O.D.O.K and I think you could make a terrifying movie with M.O.D.O.K but nobody seems to be on my side at the momentum,” Markus said. “I will win you over to Peter Dinklage as M.O.D.O.K,” he says. “If he came around the corner and you saw him floating there you would be terrified. It would be amazing.” Indeed.
Granted, M.O.D.O.K is so silly-looking that the chances of this ever happening are slim to none, but I’ll just say it now: I whole-heartedly endorse Game of Thrones favorite Peter Dinklage playing M.O.D.O.K and I think it would be a nice change from the typical super-villains that we see in movies. And hey, since Marvel seems to be going down the unusual character path with the inclusion of Rocket Raccoon in their upcoming Guardians of The Galaxy film, this theory might not be entirely off-base, right?
