New Batman v Superman Stills Show the Cast in Some Unusual Locations

Especially Lex.

In the Batman v Superman trailer, ol’ Bats was seen firing up the Bat-Signal, traditionally used for calling … himself. So what gives? Has the movie’s older take on Batman started to go senile? What’s he doing taking Commissioner Gordon’s spot next to the Bat-Signal? In some new stills from the film, he’s not the only one who’s a bit out of place.

Minor spoilers may follow.

In their September issue, Empire Magazine is set to open the flood gates of Batman v Superman info with tons of coverage and interviews from director Zack Snyder, producers Deborah Snyder and Charles Roven, and Batman and Superman themselves. They’re teasing the issue with a tiny bit of info and these stills:

First up is Superman inside a dilapidated Wayne Manor, so it seems he’ll learn Batman’s identity at some point—which his powers probably make pretty easy depending on Bats’ level of preparedness. But what’s he there for? To talk things through like adults, probably, right? Yeah, I bet that’s it.

Then, of course, there’s Batman by the Bat-Signal, which as we saw in the trailer, he uses to call out Superman as opposed to its normal function. What’s interesting here isn’t the image but Empire’s description of it as “a legacy from the Commissioner Gordon era.” Seems like pretty solid confirmation of earlier talk of Gordon’s death before the movie’s plot even picks up.

And last, we have Lex Luthor:

In case Jesse Eisenberg’s casting hadn’t tipped you off, this is a hip, modern startup-savvy version of Lex Luthor we’re getting. Hey man, we’ve got a basketball court in our break room! Wanna write some code and shoot some hoops?

Lex is taking this fight to…the court? #BatmanVSuperman
