Unlike other superheroes, Batman has a strict no-murder policy — but the filmmakers who’ve adapted Bruce Wayne’s adventures for the silver screen have bent that rule a bit. This mash-up by Mr. Sunday Movies catalogues every single time Batman has done the deed in cinema history, and it’s quite an impressive collection of kills. Even Adam West’s Light Knight cuts down a few. The horror!
Admittedly, most of Batman’s kills play out more like Looney Tunes gags than gruesome murders; the causes of death range from cartoonish bombs to falls from hyperbolic heights to anti-matter rays. In many cases, Batman merely “lets” someone die without interfering, but does not initiate their demise. That’s not true for all of these, though, and I’m not sure that defense would hold up in a court of law anyway.
What do you think? How badly did these filmmakers betray the Bat’s code of honor?
