Ridley Scott May “Be Seein’ Ya” at The Village in The Prisoner Remake
Ridley Scott, who seems to be all about directing things that aren’t the Alien movies these days, has found something else to get really into: the classic sci-fi/mystery series The Prisoner. Scott could potentially be looking at creating a feature film adaptation, truncating the 17-episode series into a handy, dandy compact sized movie.
It’ll be interesting to see how Scott plans to squeeze 17 episodes worth of tension, drama, and world building into a feature length movie. To be honest, though, if anyone can do it, it’s Scott. Given his work with the Alien franchise and his stunning work on The Martian, The Prisoner movie could be in very good hands.
You’ll remember that AMC already made a modern remake of The Prisoner in a 2009 mini-series featuring Jim Caviezel, Ian McKellen, and Hayley Atwell (just found out about her being in the show).
The talks are still super early so there aren’t any other major names attached quite yet. But there’s something about the idea of The Prisoner and its island of undesirables too valuable to kill but too dangerous to let live in public that really gets me excited. You can bet I’ll be keeping an eye on this one, and hey, if you haven’t seen the original BBC series, you should definitely give it a shot.
I mean, if only to understand this gag from The Simpsons.
