Man Sues Bethesda On Grounds That Fallout 4 Ruined His Life
A Russian man is suing video game publisher Bethesda Softworks over his experience with Fallout 4. It wasn’t necessarily bad at first, but went downhill quickly in the three weeks after the game’s release–which is when the man claims he got so addicted to playing Fallout 4 that he stopped going to work and neglected his marriage.
Citing emotional distress as a result of Fallout 4, the man is suing Bethesda for the amount of 500,000 rubles (which equals to about $7,000).
In a provided statement, the 28-year-old man said he didn’t realize how potentially life-ruining Fallout 4 could be until he lost his job and his wife as a result. “If I knew that this game could have become so addictive, I would have become a lot more wary of it. I would not have bought it, or I would have left it until I was on holiday or until the New Year holidays.”
Apparently, this is the first case of its kind that the Russian legal system has encountered–but given the thousands of people who are also currently playing the game and seem to be able to carry on with their lives, citing video game addictiveness as a debilitating cause isn’t so easy.
I haven’t gotten lost down the Fallout 4 rabbit hole just yet, but just out of curiosity: how addicting is it?
