Beware You’re In For … An Actually Rad Goosebumps Video Game?!

Let's get rid of Slappy together.

The dreams of ’90s horror kids have finally come true. We’re getting a new Goosebumps video game! And this time, it might actually be awesome.

As Wired reported this morning, Goosebumps: The Game has been added to the Xbox digital store. This game, from WayForward and GameMill Entertainment, will be available on Xbox 360 and is meant to serve as a prequel to the Jack Black movie that’s coming out in October. And like the new movie, it will feature some of your favourite characters. Yes, like Slappy, those creepy garden gnomes and those nightwalkers of scarecrows.

Here’s the full description of what goes down in the game:

You’ll need to use your wits to investigate the surroundings, puzzle out clues, and outsmart the monsters before it’s too late! Survive a trek through your neighborhood, unravel the mysteries of the Dead House, and sneak through the mall after hours; only then can you confront Slappy and stop his plans for revenge! Players beware… you’re in for a scare in the exciting Goosebumps video game.

If you aren’t already sold on this game from the tagline (“Players beware”!!!), just take a look at these screencaps, which suggest the game should capture the same vibe those epic book covers did, managing to appear both eerie and kooky.

Of course, it might be easy to distrust this game considering that Goosebumps video games  haven’t been all that great in the past. I recall trying my hardest to get anywhere in the Escape from HorrorLand PC game back in the day and getting more frustrated than anything else (now that’s scary for a huge Goosebumps and horror fan!). I never got a chance to try out the more recent Goosebumps HorrorLand game, but I haven’t heard great things (if you liked it, please make your case below because I’d be willing to try it!). Maybe by leaving HorrorLand behind for the streets of suburbia, where most of those spooky tales actually took place, Goosebumps will finally be able to scare up a legitimately great video game for new fans and old? All I can say is, I’m dying for the chance to banish Slappy for eternity.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to eBay to look for a used copy of the One Day in HorrorLand board game to keep me busy until October 14, when Goosebumps: The Game is officially unleashed.
