Bill & Ted Face the Music Cast Listened to the Beatles to Get Into the World-Saving Music Mood
Bill & Ted Face the Music is finally coming into our lives after over 29 years of not having a new journey for William “Bill” S. Preston Esquire and Theodore “Ted” Logan. And now, in preparation for their latest journey, stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter have been talking about what the film and these characters mean to them.
In a recent interview with Variety, Reeves and Winter talked about filming again and how easy it was to fall back into the world of these characters, but they also addressed the song that would save the world. In the lore of Bill & Ted Face the Music, “Preston and Logan” write a song that unites everyone. Wyld Stallyns perform said song and bring peace to everyone with the power of rock-n-roll, but there wasn’t a song yet for the film, and so when asked about it, Reeves revealed that the Beatles were some joyful inspiration to keep them happy while filming:
“Dean Parisot comes from a musical background, and I knew that we were in good hands with that. I guess I could speak about this, but we didn’t have the song when we were filming, so Dean played “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” by the Beatles because for Dean, it was like, “I know 113 beats per minute would be good, and ‘Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da’ has a hundred and it’s a feel-good song.” For nights, we would just be listening and rock out to “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da.” It’s amazing how you can listen to that song a whole bunch and not get tired of it.”
The thing is … the song that would save the world would be something like “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” because songs that make us just stop and have fun for a moment are the ones we end up turning to the most. Right now, no one knows what the “song that unites the world” sounds like.
Alex Winter also went on to talk about the family fun that these movies are. So many, including myself, grew up watching the Bill & Ted movies because they’re just a lot of fun. It’s not about doing drugs and playing music (though many do think of Bill and Ted as stoners), but rather, just two friends who want to play songs and have fun together.
“We’re not stoners; we’re not surfers. We really are very childlike, Bill and Ted. That seems to be, I think, why little kids still like the movies. When people come up to me on the street these days, a lot of times it’s with really little kids, and I love that. I think that’s great. It’s not like that was intentional, but I think that Keanu and I both always saw these kids as these characters, as having kind of a childlike view of the world or an innocent view, but not in a caricature-ish way, ideally.”
Bill & Ted Face the Music will be released on VOD and in select theaters on August 28th.
