Birds of Prey Teaser Makes Me Want to Kick Ass & Upgrade My Wardrobe
Up your costume game, dudes.
Since it was announced and as the casting happened for the film, I’ve been insanely excited for 2020’s Birds of Prey, which will be directed by Cathy Yan, written by Bumblebee‘s Christina Hodson, and star Margot Robbie, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rosie Perez, Ella Jay Basco, and Ewan McGregor.
While it is supposed to take place after the events of Suicide Squad, as a writer, Hodson has shown a great ability to know what to retcon in order to make a strong standalone movie. Much like the 20-second clip of Joaquin Phoenix with Joker makeup, this is a production teaser to let us know the direction everything is going.
I dig it.
I am most excited to see Black Canary onscreen. From the mic, it looks like they’re going to pull from the comics, where she’s a singer as well as a crimefighter. They also struck a good balance with her hair. Dinah originally had a blonde wig and later dyed her hair blonde, so this color is a great balance of having the blonde, but still finding a good color for Smollett-Bell.
As long as she has her canary cry, I’ll be happy. Also fishnets.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead looks really cool as Huntress, with her trademark crossbow, and the costume is simple but functional. Just in terms of a more interesting color palette, I hope they will find some ways to add more purple to the costume.
Ahh! I didn’t think this casting could be any more exciting, but Rosie Perez looks so good—not to mention that if they’re doing a lone-rogue, drunk lesbian noir detective story with Renne, I think I’ll see this movie seven times. Perez looks like a badass, and I’m so glad she’s going to be in a comic book movie! She is a legend.
Perfect angel. Protect her at all costs. Also, I love the detail on her cast and how much profanity is on it. After Black Canary, the character I’m most excited to see make a live-action debut is Cassandra Cain. She’s going to hurt people so perfectly
We know he can wear a suit, so this just shows us that McGregor will look handsome. I’m guessing they’re saving the mask for a later trailer/the movie itself. Still, it makes him seem like a very boring addition to the teaser. Handsome, but boring.
Chris Messina looks hot in this very 8 Mile shade of platinum bottle blonde, but like McGregor, we don’t see enough for it to be particularly interesting.
Omg is it Harley Quinn in a cute outfit that doesn’t look like trash?! I didn’t think it could happen. I love this—the bold colors they’re using for Harley, with the Misty-from-Pokémon-style, denim jeans with suspenders and bright crop top combination. I’m so so excited for this movie and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.
Birds of Prey is scheduled to be released in the United States on February 7, 2020.
