Birds of Prey Reveals New Logo Celebrating Their Warrior Women

The highly anticipated all-female DCEU entry Birds of Prey has wrapped filming, although we’ll have to wait another year to see the film. In the meantime, we got a sneak peek at the movie’s logo, thanks to an Instagram post from Margot Robbie’s production company LuckyChap Entertainment:

Upon closer examination, the logo is stocked with Easter eggs. First, there’s the very Harley-esque pink addition of the subtitle (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Then there’s the illustrations within the logo, which features a mask, a bow and arrow (nods to Huntress) and a knife. There is also a baseball bat (Harley), a microphone (Black Canary), a diamond, and a comb. It’s unclear what the diamond and comb will represent, although the trio of superheroines are quite stylish.

Birds of Prey will be the DCEU’s first female-fronted effort since 2017’s Wonder Woman. The film is directed by Cathy Yan, the first woman of color to direct a big-budget superhero film. The script is written by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee). The diverse cast includes Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Dinah Lance/Black Canary, a singer with an ultrasonic scream, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Helena Bertinelli/Huntress. Rounding out the cast are Rosie Perez as Detective Renee Montoya and Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain.

The film premiered new footage two weeks ago at CinemaCon, which featured bright neon colors and a roller-skating Harley Quinn. The cast described the world as “This is not Batman’s Gotham. It’s a scrappier Gotham,” with Rosie Perez saying that the film, “We are not pulling any punches whatsoever.”

The film will be the second entry into the DCEU to hold an R-rating, after October’s Joaquin Phoenix starrer The Joker (which is rumored to be R but yet to be confirmed). The plot revolves around a newly single Harley Quinn, who joins forces with Huntress and Black Canary to protect the young Cassandra Cain from villain Black Mask (Ewan McGregor) and assassin Victor Zsasz (Chris Messina).

All we can say is, 2020 can’t come soon enough.
