Black Panther Film Gets a New Logo

Recommended Videos

Marvel co-president Louis D’Esposito recently shared a photo of the on-set chairs for Black Panther, revealing what looks like the movie’s new logo. The new font is a departure from both the original film logo and those for the current Black Panther and World of Wakanda comics.

The original logo, revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, was more chiseled and super-shiny, reminiscent of classic logos from the legacy comics.

This new logo has a hipper, more punk-rock look than the original–a better fit, in my opinion, for the hyper-advanced nation of Wakanda. Plus, the original looked so similar to the Doctor Strange logo, without a feeling of its own. Just like the logo for Thor: Ragnarok went full-on eighties sci-fi, the Black Panther logo should match the look of its setting and its protagonist.

Still, with an already ludicrously stellar cast, Black Panther didn’t exactly need a new look to get on my most-anticipated list for 2018. They’ve lined up some serious talent, and I can’t wait to see photos from the set now that they’ve begun shooting.

Directed by Ryan Coogler (Creed, Fruitvale Station), and starring Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Sterling K. Brown, Danai Gurira, and Martin Freeman, Black Panther is set for release on February 16, 2018.
