Black Widow Kicks Butt in New Avengers Featurette, but Will She Appear in Iron Man 3?
Excelsior!
The media onslaught for The Avengers has reached its fever pitch this month, and with the movie’s wide release nearly a week away, I’ve been avoiding the production’s television spots and extended featurettes like the plauge. But how could I resist one all about the only founding female member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Avengers, Black Widow.
The character was introduced to the movie universe with a secondary role in Iron Man 2, and since that movie’s sequel is gearing up, one wonders if Widow will continue her attachment to the series. According to Scarlett Johansson herself…
Well, no, according to ScreenRant. But Johansson is ready for more screen time for the Widow regardless.
I think that you build this kind of character in the hope that the fans are like, “we want more.” I personally think there’s an awesome Black Widow movie in there. A kind of Bourne film that would take the whole comic-book genre in a completely different direction. It’d be awesome.
I’ve spoken to Marvel about it and Kevin Feige, and there’s so much story to draw from, I think it’d be totally awesome.
She acknowledges that getting back into the rigorous routine of exercise and eating restrictions it took to portray a superhero would be daunting… but worth it. Unfortunately, all I’m hearing is that there are exactly zero plans at this moment to make a solo Black Widow movie, or even have her appear in the three sequels that Marvel has already planned for the rest of the Avengers. While the cynic in me is not surprised, it’s still a little disappointing. If Marvel Entertainment has shown one thing in the process of creating the Cinematic Universe, it’s a willingness to write, cast, and push movies into preproduction before their preceding movies have even had a second trailer, much less a box office return. If the company was as excited to make movies about the only female superhero currently in their movie universe as it was to make movies about the men, we would already know what Black Widow’s next appearance would be.
