I’ve got it all worked out. The alien race that sent the Jaegers wasn’t entirely destroyed at the end of the movie, and because of Newt and Hermann drifting with the Kauji they now know humanity’s weakness for cats. So that’s what they send to wipe us out in the sequel: Giant, bloodthirsty, cuddly cats.

We don’t stand a chance.
