Would You Put David Cronenberg’s POD Into Your Brain?

It looks like a cross between a pancreas and a shrimp, if that helps.

David Cronenberg (the Canadian filmmaker behind creepy classics The Fly, Videodrome, and Scanners) is working on a new project – and it’s not a movie. “POD” – short for “Personal-on-Demand” – is the latest in Recommendation Bio-Technology, and it’s alive. And, yeah, it wants to live in your brain.

What could possibly go wrong, amirite?

Thankfully, POD is actually just part of an elaborate trans-media project (for now), put together by director Lance Weiler as part of the Toronto International Film Festival’s upcoming exhibit, David Cronenberg: Evolution. If you want to feel like you’re living in a Cronenberg flick – well, first, question your choices. Then, head over to the Body/Mind/Change website to sign up for your very own brain symbiote, a “truly unique lifeform” which will “improve your life in unexpected ways.”

When the project is ready, you’ll be guided through a three-part video training experience for your POD, hosted by Cronenberg himself. When the exhibition opens in January 2014, you can head over to the TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto and pick up your very own, personalized POD.

Geekosystem cannot guarantee the safety of anyone who chooses to let their personal PODs into their homes. Because it’s probably going to eat your brain.
