Good news for people who love surreal comedy! Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher of BriTANick fame have been optioned by Lionsgate to direct, produce and star in their own movie, according to a Variety exclusive. We can only hope that it ends up being as weird as their YouTube videos.

If you have no idea who we’re talking about or what “Eagles Are Turning People Into Horses” could possibly mean, then let us explain: BriTANick is a two-person comedy sketch group out of New York that’s comprised of Brian and Nick, respectively. Their most popular work includes the “Academy Award Winning Movie Trailer” that made the rounds in 2011, and the short film we keep talking about, “Eagles are Turning People Into Horses,” which was McElhaney’s NYU Senior Thesis film back in 2008 and supposedly cost only $11 to make. It eventually got into both the 2010 SlamDance and SXSW Film Festivals, so trust us, it’s worth watching all 15 minutes below:

They were also given bit parts in Joss Whedon’s recent Much Ado About Nothing, which also led to this sketch of them conducting totally real and normal interviews with the entire cast, as well as another sketch that involved Whedon teaching Nick Kocher how to use a toilet.

We’ve been fans of this comedy duo for years, so it’s good to see them getting an opportunity to do something great with actual money behind it. Not that $11 isn’t enough to make an obvious masterpiece of a short film, of course — but a feature length one might need a bit more than that.
